Clinical pharmacy comprises a set of skills that promote the optimal use of medicines for individual patients. This can be achieved by using a patient-centred approach that is grounded in principles of safety, evidence-based and consistent practice, and an understanding of the patient’s parameters. The course will provide exposure to the various therapeutic management approaches used in treating major disease states through the integration of patient and laboratory data, pathology and pharmacology. The pharmaceutical care approach to patient care and the SOAP approach. Clinical problem solving will be used in case study scenarios. Topics will include: Pharmaceutical care, Clinical Laboratory Evaluations, General Care of the Patient, Acid base Disorders, Fluids Electrolytes and Nutrition, pharmacotherapy of organ system disorders such as Gastrointestinal, Respiratory, Endocrine, cardiovascular disease, Central Nervous System, renal system Common inflammatory conditions, sexually transmitted infections and and other infectious diseases.
