This course is designed to focus on the therapeutic aspects of self-care using over-the-counter (OTC) products, dietary supplements, natural products and other alternative medicine therapies. It is designed to strengthen student skills in the art of patient interviewing and counseling. It emphasizes triage of patients, patient safety, therapeutic efficacy, and the validity and current evidence-based outcome measures. The course centers on the pharmacist’s role in making professional decisions concerning these medications and in providing advice to patients in selecting drugs for self-medication.
