Business ethics is the moral analysis of business activities and practices. In this course, students will consider business actions and decisions in the light of moral principles and values, and have an opportunity to ask themselves whether ethical motives and practices in business organizations would make them more proficient and successful. Further, there will be an examination of issues and conflicts that typically arise in business that have moral aspects to them, such as the way employers treat their employees, employees their employers, and the ways businesses treat their competitors, their customers, and society, and even the environment.
The general goals of this course are:
1) To examine the role and purpose of ethics in business. 2) To present methods of moral reasoning, case analysis, and of resolving ethical dilemmas. 3) To present the ethical values considered especially relevant to business activity – respect for human dignity, honesty, fairness, and the development of trust. 4) To present the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility, and explore its relevance to ethical business activity. 5) To investigate the ethical obligations and ethical ideals present in the relationship between employers and employees. 6) To consider any moral obligations of businesses to the environment.
